Find those lost investments. Track down old building society accounts. Locate pension funds from previous employment.
There are millions of pounds of unclaimed financial assets in the UK, hidden in old building society and bank accounts, pensions, life assurance and investments – yet most are quick and easy to reclaim. So whether it is your own money or an inheritance from a deceased friend or family member, sitting there unclaimed, it's worth spending a little bit of time investigating. Beware of some of the companies that offer to do this for you - It can easily be done yourself, and usually this involves little more than a few minutes on the computer, the cost of a phone call, or a few pounds for a search.
There may be £400 million or more in old bank accounts alone, which has not escaped the attention of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He has his eye on this cash. Anything over 15 years old lurking in dormant accounts is likely to go into a 'good causes' fund which can be spent by the Nation, though even if that does happen you should still be able to reclaim any of your funds that have gone to it.
